Wood Badge

The NE-IV-207 staff welcomed 45 participants to Gilwell Field for the start of their Wood Badge experience. Troop 1 was formed and we had a very busy, program filled weekend. This year we have eight patrols including the Antelope patrol for the first time in many years. Along with the 42 Scouters from Minsi Trails Council we also have leaders from Northeastern Pennsylvania and Central New Jersey Councils taking part. By the time you read this article, you will see Scouters that have caught the Wood Badge spirit working their ticket by putting into practice the skills they’ve learned. They will be easy to spot as they will be wearing their Wood Badge smile and their Troop 1 neckerchiefs. If you weren’t able to attend Wood Badge this year contact the Council office for information about the 2009 courses that are being held in Northeastern Pennsylvania and Bucks County Council. Woodbadge. We live it. We love it. We want more of it.

Day Camp

We would like to pass along a great big, heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who supported the Day Camp program this past year. Without your dedication to the program, it would have been difficult to produce such a wonderful experience for our youth. This summer, Minsi Trails Council was able to host 11 local day camps throughout our area, with over 1000 boys taking part in an incredible summer program enjoying such activities as swimming, archery, and BB guns, just to name a few. It’s not too early to start thinking and planning for Cub Scout Day Camp 2009!!!! It promises to be a fantastic time with many great memories!

Unit Accident Insurance

Over the next two years the per person fee paid at recharter time for insurance coverage will be increasing. We are sorry for any problems this may bring, but due to increasing costs for coverage the need was necessary. This change is the first increase in accident insurance our council has faced in fifteen years. Starting December 2008 all individuals will pay $1.00 rather than the 80 cents normally paid. Then, starting December 2009 the per person fee will increase to $2.00.

Medal of Merit Awarded

On September 11, 2008, Jim Daley, District Advancement Chairman for the Forks of the Delaware District, presented the BSA "Medal of Merit" to Scout Wesley Lambert, Troop #63. While participating in an indoor baseball practice last Spring, Paul Dudan, also a member of Troop #63, sustained a serious arm laceration. While running, Paul fell and his arm went through a double fireproof wired window at school. Scout Wes Lambert, also a member of the baseball team, immediately responded. Employing his first aid training, Wes was able to stanch the bleeding until medical help arrived. For his quick response and his appropriate applicaiton of first aid techniques, Wes was recognized with BSA's Medal of Merit. Congratulations to Scout Wes Lambert.
