Day Camp - Join The Adventure!

Cub Scout Day Camps are offered throughout the summer in various geographical areas of the council. Each camp offers their own theme. This program, which runs Monday through Friday, offers a fun-filled week of challenging Cub Scout activities, exciting adventures and new friendships. Cub Scout Day Camp is for boys who will be in the 1st - 5th Grade in the fall of 2009. If your son will be in the 1st grade in the fall of 2009 he must have an adult partner (not considered volunteer) attend camp with him. Going to Cub Scout Day Camp together with friends from your own Den or Pack really increases the fun for everyone! Dens are formed according to age and school grade. If your child wants to be with a certain child or leader, please let us know by writing that information on the bottom of the registration form. In order to maximize fun for the boys, individual Packs are urged to coordinate their attendance at Day Camp, including recruitment of Day Camp leadership and transportation. Are you up for the Challenge? Sign up to be one of our campers at one of the following Day Camps… http://www.minsitrails.com/camping/CubScout/DayCamp/default.asp

Stillwater Lake Dam Update

As many of you know, the Stillwater Lake Dam at Camp Minsi was reclassified as a High Hazard Dam by the PA DEP several years ago, and the Council has been in the process of repairing of the dam to meet these new State standards. In 2008, the Council entered into a Consent Order and Agreement with PA DEP which lays out a timetable to repair the dam. We are in full compliance with this timetable and are in the midst of completing the engineering plans and dam permit application as required. Our anticipation is that this engineering work will be completed by August 2009, and DEP will approve our application soon after. The Council has applied for several State grants to assist with this construction, and we hope to hear about this by June 2009. We will keep you posted on our progress as it unfolds. In the meantime, Camp Minsi is operating as normal and our summer camp sign-ups show an increase in campers this year over last year! If you have any questions, please feel free to call Tom Harrington, Scout Executive, at 610/465-8554.

Beaver Weekends - May 1-3 and May 15-17

Beaver Weekend provides your unit with an ideal opportunity to prepare a campsite at Akelaland, Trexler Scout Reservation or Camp Minsi for the summer camping season. The boys work around camp on Saturday and can participate in program areas during the afternoon free of charge! Saturday lunch is provided. What is Beaver Day? This is a chance for your unit to improve our summer camp facilities and enjoy a taste of what's to come this summer at camp. Guess What? It's completely free! That's right, no charge at all. We are giving units the opportunity to camp in the same campsite they use during the summer this weekend, (if possible). Help improve your site, or participate in one of the projects around camp to prepare for the 2009 camping season. The camp will provide you tents and cots for setup Friday evening during check-in starting at 6:00 pm. All your unit has to do is provide you own food and equipment needs for your stay. All we ask is you give a few hours of service to the camp on Saturday morning. In return, Scouts and leaders can take advantage of serveral open program areas Saturday afternoon run by summer camp staff. Also, if you have any leaders in your unit who are electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc. please let us know, so we can have materials on-hand for larger and skilled projects around camp. http://www.minsitrails.com/camping/CubScout/FamilyCamping/BeaverWeekend.asp
